If I say I'm thinking about it when I get back from holiday, you'll all laugh at me. I know, I think about a lot of projects, and I don't get round to all of them. At the moment I'm thinking about this and also Mabelle. When I get back, couple of weeks time.

In the meantime, have you seen this version? Also stunning. Natural colours again. If I do make one, current thinking is that it will probably be in a dark natural, or maybe black.....

It had caught my eye, too. I'm trying not to have another large project lined up (after shoalwater and mystery stole three) ... have plenty of small things to be getting on with and I'm a one project kind of gal ... but ...

Let me tempt you further  Brooklyntweed says his only took a week to knit  I am doing it in a finer yarn so I expect it to nbe longer but I cast on last night and have finished half of what is charted (although I will probably keep going to make it larger)

Photos on my blog :-D

The lace bit of the pattern isn't hard althought there is an error in line 35 (I tink it's 35?) but it's just a little mistake which will be obvious when you knit it.

There's a yahoo group here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hemlockringkal/?yguid=140873623

I had some violet green sport weight in a lovely loganberry (very similar to your colour Jam_mam)...

I'd bought it for a "autumn mystery shawl", but not sure it's snuggly enought for that - but think it would be ideal for the hemlock...

BUT jarod's hemlock is done in an aran - and I love the chunky look of it....

Not sure whether to wait until the NEC or cast on ANOTHER project... think I need to finish Della first(!)

This is the first bit of lace (excluding socks) that has really grabbed me. I bet it's gonna be really hard, better make sure I find a yarn that frogs easily.

Oh please, someone slap me! I've got about 7 WIPs on the go - lace, socks, afghans - you name it, I'm doing it  - and now I've been tempted by this. I've thought about it all night, dithered "yes", then "no" - but now I've caved in and signed up to the Yahoo group and have just ordered my yarn online. Yes, I could've popped into my LYS tomorrow and bought some - but it would've cost me more in petrol to get there than the postage - plus, by the time the yarn arrives, I will *hopefully* have cleared at least half of my current WIPS. *crosses fingers and starts praying!*
(and I hope mine only takes a week like his did. )

Yay! come on everyone else, don't dither, it's a lovely pattern. I'm on the feather & fan part now and zipping along, well, round and round and round.

I think an aran version would be great and grow really quickly, I have some heathery coloured aran I might use for it. There was a big discussion on the yahoo group about blocking ad giving it to non-knitters who would end up with a crumpled mess after they first washed it. Tips were to give good washing instructions and to use acrylic mix yarn. The heather I have is acrylic and I can't think what to do with it, I think this patern has solved that problem.

But the first one is for me  and my PY emily is perrrrrfect and such a joy to knit with, so soft and squishy.

I'll try and get a decent photo today for you all.

For those new to lace the dificult part for this design is the cast on and there are various ways to do it. I used Emily Ocker's Circular cast on and because the yarn is biger than the lace weight I tried it in for the Goddess Mystery Shawl 4 it was much esier. My tip would be to do it whilst sitting at a table so you can lay the slippy needles down when they only have a few stitches on and aso to use bamboo circs.

loving this knit, off to go round and round and round.

Wip? They're sitting in a corner, I have a new love and his name is Hemlock

Oh dear jammam, I don't think you'll be on the OHs Christmas card list. I've already spent £40 on various yarn this month and we're moving house. I think I might have to keep him sweet and wait til next month before I throw myself head long into the world of lace. Then at least there'll be no risk of the orders turning up at the wrong house or the lace being badly packed when we move out. But then if I wait til we've got our new three piece suite I could match up the yarn to the leather... but then again if I make this first, I could always match the leather to the yarn

Jammam, you're bad! I have enough WIPs, but already I can see myself working on something gorgeous like this. It must be a winter thing, I'm more drawn to thicker yarn and snuggly patterns these days.

It looks stunning. I've just made Meg Swansen's Feather and Fan Shawl as a blanket for a friends baby - here. I think it looks stunning and may be tempted when I need a project that is easy to remember. I'll look forward to seeing your progress and finished project. :D
