I'm sure lots of you know about this already, but here's an idea for all those little bits of leftover yarn that aren't even big enough to knit mittens with ...!
Innocent Drinks raise funds every year for Help the Aged by selling their little bottles of smoothie with bobble hats on - they're for sale in Sainsbury's over the winter - and for each bottle that they sell they donate 50p to Help the Aged.
The hats are knitted by anybody who can knit and wants to get involved - I've got my 10 year old daughter knitting them as a good beginner's project (she's done 3 this morning already!) This year, Innocent are hoping to sell 400,000 bottles - which means 400,000 donated hats! (It also means £200,000 for Help the Aged, which isn't bad at all.)
If you'd like to join in, here's the link:
http://www.innocentdrinks.com/thebigknit/ I'm not sure if they've got the pattern on the site yet, but if you email them they'll send it to you if you need it though it's very simple - cast on 28 sts on 4mm needles, 2 rows knit, 12 rows st st, 1 row k2tog, 1 row p2tog, fasten off. They have a competition every year for the wildest hat - it's getting more fierce every year!
I think it's a great idea, and it's a nice easy way to help raise funds in between projects!
